Transitional Kindergarten

Welcome to Transitional Kindergarten!

In our classroom we give students the gift of time. Many parents feel that their children aren't ready for the rigors of today's Kindergarten. We are able to give your child time to develop the academic and social skills needed to be successful. We are a bridge between the preschool environment and the more structured academic setting of Kindergarten. If your child does not speak English, we can give them time to learn the language, in a language-rich environment. 

There are no state mandated standards for TK. Our curriculum is a hybrid of best practices from Preschool and Kindergarten blended to teach foundational skills. We take state mandated Kindergarten assessments. Additionally we spend more time on social-emotional activities. We are unique because we can move at your child's pace of learning! 

Many parents can be unsure if they should enroll their child in TK. If reading through the following questions, you find yourself answering 'no',  TK may be a good program for your child. If you are new to our school, not from the preschool located at Christ the King, a short assessment may be used to determine your child's placement in TK or K. 

• Can my child hold/use crayons, pencils and scissors?
• Does my child initiate conversations with others?
• Does my child follow 2-3 step directions?
• Can my child easily accept 'no' for an answer?
• Can my child keep his or her hands to himself or herself?
• Can my child sit attentively when being read to?
• Can my child identify numbers 0-10 in random order?
• Can my child identify and name the letters in his or her name?
• Can my child name 10-20 upper and lowercase letter. names and sounds?
