School Counselor
Our School Counselor delivers several services: individual counseling, small-group counseling, and classroom social-emotional skill lessons. Our Social-Emotional Learning curriculum centers around the 5 Social-Emotional competencies developed by CASEL (the Center for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning.) These 5 competencies are:
Self-Awareness
Self-Management
Social Awareness
Relationship Skills
Responsible Decision-Making
Lessons involved skill-building and understanding in each of these areas, Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our Middle School has topical lesson in LifeSkills, such as:
Christ the King School is a Leader in Me School! Leader in Me teachs students the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. These habits are ones that students (everyone) needs to foster to be the best they can be in life. These habits are: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, then to Be Understood, Synergize, Sharpen the Saw --and an 8th habit included after development of the first 7: Find Your Voice.
We are also fortunate to have a School-based Therapist at our school. This individual is on campus once per week to work with students who need ongoing, regular counseling services. This is available to any student and is made with arrangement from the student and family. Insurance/Medicaid is accepted; this is handled exclusively through the Therapist and not through the School. Please contact our School Counselor or your child's teacher if this is a service you would like for your child. Sessions are held on campus during a school day so there is no need to make a separate appointment and travel to an office.
