Fr. Nick Smith was ordained a priest by Bishop William Joensen on June 24, 2022 at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. He spent his first year of priesthood at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Parish in Ankeny before beginning ministry at Christ the King in July 2023.
Fr. Smith is a Des Moines native, growing up on the west side and attending St. Augustin Parish and School, then Dowling Catholic High School, graduating in 2014. It was during his time at Dowling that he first began to seriously discern God's call to the priesthood. After high school, he entered the seminary while attending the University of St. Thomas (MN). Following graduation, he continued on to the Saint Paul Seminary, where he completed his formation for the priesthood.
Fr. Smith is the oldest of 7 children, and his parents and a few siblings still reside in Des Moines. Outside of work directly connected to priestly ministry, you can find him jogging the streets of the southside, reading, or spending time with family and friends. After attending Catholic schools all his life, he is excited to be part of the CK Parish and School Community as a priest and helping our young people to grow in faith and learning.
