Early Childhood

Preschool focuses on the social, emotional and faith formation of your child. Our classroom is center based where students freely move from areas such as math, writing, art, reading, kitchen, sensory, blocks, science and music. Each day we spend time working in whole group and small group activities focusing on math, literacy, science and social skills.

Rachel Dorpinghaus – Preschool/Developmental Kindergarten

My name is Rachel Peterson and I am a preschool teacher at Christ the King School. I am originally from Clinton, Iowa, but moved to the Des Moines area for college. I am a recent graduate of Simpson College where I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, as well as endorsements in both early childhood education and reading. Preschool is my favorite age group to work with because of their love of learning and strong sense of curiosity.  My goal is to instill that sense of curiosity and create lifelong learners with a passion for school. Visit Our Classroom | Email: rpeterson@cksdesmoines.com

This is my first year here at Christ the King School and I am so excited to be working in the preschool classroom. Ellen Moist – Kindergarten

My name is Ellen Moist. I am a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish, as well as a product of Christ the King School and Dowling Catholic High School.

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in elementary education. I also have an emphasis in Early Childhood Education. Throughout the years I have had a variety of classes in literacy, math, and other content areas.

Education is always evolving and I feel it is important to be a lifelong learner. I teach in a Catholic school because I can’t imagine teaching anywhere else. My faith is such an important part of my daily life that I don’t know how I could separate it from my work, especially when my life’s work is that of forming young minds.
