When kids are struggling with subjects like reading or math, schools may provide what's called an instructional intervention. This is more than a bit of “extra help.” It's a specific program(s) or set of steps to address an academic need. (It's sometimes called an academic intervention.)
There are three programs at Christ the King School that can fall under Academic Intervention in the sense that it’s targeted teaching in a small group. These programs are: Title I Reading, English as a Second Language (ESL) and Resource. Below you will find more information about each of the three.
Title I is a federally funded program to assist in meeting students’ educational goals. This intervention is to help students fill academic gaps, provide them with learning tools, and help them develop the necessary skills they need for academic success. More information will be sent home about this program if your child is invited to participate.
We are fortunate to have an English as a Second Language program at CKS. In this program, students that qualify based on their home language, receive support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This aids in their accuisiton of the English language. It is important to fill out and return the Home Language Survey for these supports. More information will be send home about this program if you child qualifies.
CKS is able to provide math support to those students struggling with grade-level concepts through Mr. Imme. This support looks different based on your child’s grade-level. Typically, TK-2 students meet in a small group setting out of the classroom while students in grade 3-8 are supported in small groups within the classroom. Mr. Imme does pull students in grades 3-8 for specific skill work if concerns arise.
